So I have decided to start "caption this". Caption this will show pics of things that to us are just weird, different or just out right funny. Our first caption this post is the "bare feet syndrome". Here in Australia (Brisbane/Sunshine Coast) we have seen not just one, two or three people walking around without shoes, we have seen MANY. I know not everyone here walks shoeless but its enough for us to "caption this". Thoughts are welcome.

How funny that you think bare feet are strange, but then again in Italy you would get the evil eye for walking around bare foot.
It is less common in Melbourne, but in summer you see them around. People often drive bare foot (even though you are not allowed to) and I've had a few friends who used to always go out walking bare feet in the summer.
Okay, in the first pick I'm thinking maybe she has a bunion...I don't know.
But the second pic of the shoeless FAMILY, ummm...what is that all about?
Keep'em coming!

Leanne, being from Toronto its different to see ppl walking barefoot. I only imagine how hot the ground is here in Australia. I asked many Australians "why" and I often get the "they are rednecks" answer.
Lala, more shoeless families we are seing these days.
It's due to the high interest rates in Australia. We now consider shoes a luxury item.
sonya lol, are you serious?
My mum says that when she was growing up in the 40s-50s in the Western suburbs of Sydney (Croydon) lots of kids in her class didn't have shoes as they were too expensive. She was considered on of the 'richer' ones as she (and her sisters) always wore shoes to school.
I have to admit I didn't always wear shoes when I lived in Sydney -especially if I was near the beach... And I go barefoot both inside and out (on the balcony or in the garden if we're staying with friends etc) all summer long. I only wear shoes if I have to (ie. on the rather filthy streets of Rome).
Of course I'm serious! ;-) I'm actually guilty of walking around barefoot occasionally on the street. As kids we never wore shoes and I think in Australia it's not a big deal. I wouldn't do it at the shopping centre or a busy street because that's what bogans do (bogans are people with not a lot of class). I remember walking around the house barefoot in Italy and it would always raise eyebrows.
